Social Worker | Educator
I am a social worker with a passion for child protection.
I have a 35-year, well-grounded background in this specific field. My vision is to coach social workers on the intricacies of child protection to improve their knowledge, skills, and service rendering.
I started my journey as a child protection social worker on 1 January 1987 at Christelik-Maatskaplike Raad, Uitenhage, Eastern Cape. On 1 October 1987, I had to fulfill my obligation as a bursary holder at the new Department of Social
Development, Port Elizabeth.
I also had a three-year stint at the Department of Social Development at the Bellville office in Western Cape. I was exposed to the following sections: intake, child protection, probation, canalization officer, social worker at a childcare center for 14 years, and child protection supervisor, 6 years.
Since 1996, I was exposed to training and supervision of students (local and international) and social workers regarding child protection, the Child Care Act/Children’s Act, play therapy, and group work. My interest grew in doing full-time training in child protection.
I resigned in May 2016, intending to do full-time accredited training. Just as I started presenting workshops, the ACVV National Office requested me to assist as a regional manager in Port Elizabeth. My journey with this organization started on 1 June 2017. During this period, I continued training the ACVV as well as the Department of Social Development’s social service practitioners.
On 31 October 2019, I resigned again to follow my passion and dream of training child protection social service practitioners on a full-time basis.
I am still involved as a member of the board of ACVV PE Noord.
I am now living my passion for training and improving the knowledge base of social service practitioners in child protection to improve services rendered to children in need of care and protection.
I would like to take you on a journey to empower you on your knowledge of child protection.
